eWalkThrough in 3 Steps

Educators must continually be supported in the effort to deliver excellent teaching. Student success must remain the center of all our work in education.   We know, and research confirms, that classroom observations are an excellent choice for supporting best practice instruction. As building and district leaders implement the digital eWalkThrough system, or another observation tool, for this process there are easy steps for success:

  1. Conduct eWalkThrough observations continuously across the semester.  Ensure that observers are continually calibrated so the observation data are reliable and valid.  Conduct observations at different times of the week, day, and even at different points of a class period.
  2. Analyze the eWalkThrough data regularly (monthly and/or each semester).  The gift of the eWT tool is the amount of data that can be mined from the digital system.  Individual instructor, grade level, content area, building, and district data can be analyzed.  The potential for instructional impact increases exponentially with this powerful disaggregation feature.
  3. Identify and prioritize specific instructional areas in which teachers need support.  Differentiated instruction for students has been a emphasis area over the last several years.  I contend that differentiated professional learning for teachers is just as important.  eWalkThrough data can provide the vehicle with which to support teachers with authentic and focused differentiated professional learning.

eWalkThrough data are collected and shared in real-time as instruction is being delivered. Teachers receive immediate feedback on which they can reflect to impact their practice.  Data ensure that resources target specific instructional needs. Teachers are supported with exactly what they need in their individual professional learning.

Where are you in this process as an instructional leader? How do you know you are implementing the steps? I want to hear from YOU! Comment below with your take on the 3 Easy Steps.
